What it is like

Granite Falls, from the official record.

Every fact here comes from the city, the county, WSDOT or the parks agencies. Sources are listed below.

01

Getting around

State Route 92 connects Granite Falls with Lake Stevens and SR 9. The city puts Arlington 11 miles north, the Port of Everett 17 miles west and Paine Field 20 minutes away. East of town, the Mountain Loop Scenic Byway runs 54 miles to Darrington by the Forest Service's count.

Community Transit Route 280 runs from the Granite Falls park and ride to Everett Station, which connects to the Sounder N line and the Swift Blue Line.

02

Parks and trails

Jim Holm Park, across from City Hall, has a playground, a covered picnic area, basketball courts and a skate park. Frank Mason Park on Lake Gardner has a dock for fishing and swimming, and Eagle Park is a fenced off-leash area for dogs.

A mile out on the Mountain Loop, the Granite Falls Fish Ladder sits beside the falls the city is named for. The county's Robe Canyon Historic Trail is a 2.2-mile round trip through the canyon east of town, and the byway reaches trailheads for Lake Twenty-Two, Heather Lake, Mount Pilchuck and the Big Four Ice Cave, about 25 miles out.

03

Rivers and lakes

The Pilchuck River runs along SR 92 near town, and the South Fork Stillaguamish is reached at the county's Riverscene park on the edge of town, for fishing and kayaking. The city points to boat launches on Lake Bosworth and Lake Roesiger, and to lakes south of town for skiing, tubing and fishing.

Farther up the byway, the Forest Service describes rushing rivers and glacier-clad peaks.

04

Known for

Granite Falls grew with the Monte Cristo mines and the railroad that linked them to Everett's smelters, and a local museum keeps artifacts from the early gold mining days. On the byway, the Verlot Public Service Center was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1933 to 1942.

Granite Falls became a Purple Heart City on August 7, 2026.
