Snohomish County
Living in Arlington.
At the forks of the Stillaguamish River in the foothills of the Cascades, about 10 miles north of Everett and 40 miles north of Seattle.
What it is like
Arlington, from the official record.
Every fact here comes from the city, the county, WSDOT or the parks agencies. Sources are listed below.
Getting around
SR 530 and SR 9 meet in Arlington, and I-5 reaches town at Exit 208 for SR 530 and Exit 206 for SR 531 at Smokey Point. The city describes Arlington as halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.
Community Transit's Smokey Point Transit Center serves eight routes, including Route 907 straight to Paine Field and connections to Link light rail at Lynnwood City Center, and the Zip Shuttle gets around town.
Parks and trails
The Centennial Trail cuts right through the center of town, part of the county's 30 miles of paved trail, and the city's parks map shows its connection to the Whitehorse Trail north of Haller Park. Haller Park has river access, trails, a large playground and a splash pad.
The county's Twin Rivers Park, where the North and South Forks of the Stillaguamish meet, has a disc golf course, and River Meadows Park, four miles northeast on the river, offers summer camping and yurts all year. The city's Airport Trail is a 6-mile loop.
The river
Arlington sits at the forks of the Stillaguamish River, and the city puts the Cascades and Puget Sound right at your doorstep. Fishing and floating are popular on the river.
In winter the eagles return to the Stillaguamish, and the city marks it with an annual Eagle Festival. Along the Whitehorse Trail, the county describes views of forests, farmland, streams, rivers and mountains.
Known for
The Arlington Fly-In at the city's airport is one of the Northwest's largest fly-ins. The airport began in 1934 and became a U.S. Naval Auxiliary Air Station in 1940. Arlington was two towns until they incorporated as one in May 1903, and Division Street is a reminder of the old line between them.
The city's calendar includes the Fourth of July parade and the Stilly Duck Dash, a street fair, a farmers market and Hometown Holidays, when Olympic Avenue, the downtown main street, closes to traffic.
From Rich
I have lived in Arlington since December 2003, and I started driving trucks on Snohomish and Skagit County roads in 2004. If you are weighing Arlington, call or text me and I will tell you what I know about it, and what I do not.
